For this reason, there are wines that lend themselves, for example, to being appreciated during summer, when there is usually a tendency to drink summer wines, fresh and light. With particular attention to serving temperatures, for which a general rule applies: white wines should be served around 6–8°C, sparkling ones around 4–6°C and mature, well-structured white wines between 10 and 12°C.
Here are five light summer wines selected by Cantine Leonardo da Vinci.
It is the rosé of the 1502 Da Vinci in Romagna collection, inspired by Leonardo’s long journey through the main cities of Romagna. Among these, Cesenatico, where Leonardo drew the canal port. The Sangiovese Rosato is a wine with a full body and on the nose it presents itself distinctly fruity with notes of cherry, white peach and apricot. The flavour is fresh and fruity, with a delicate acidity that invites the next sip. It is ideal for food pairings throughout the meal, both with vegetable-based dishes and fish, as well as pasta and white meats.
Its distinctive straw yellow colour with greenish highlights and its typical floral bouquet, where notes of pear and melon stand out, invite you to uncork a bottle of Pinot Grigio delle Venezie during a summer dinner, perhaps outdoors.
It is one of the most loved and best-known Italian wines in the world, and serving it at table is always an occasion for celebration. It is a perfect wine as an aperitif or to accompany fish or vegetable-based appetisers. It also lends itself as an excellent sparring partner for oriental cuisine dishes, with spices, spicy or sweet-and-sour flavours.
Among light, young and sprightly red wines, Rosso di Montalcino is certainly one. For its characteristics of freshness and pleasantness, it lends itself to summer glasses under the stars. Both for tasting and for food pairing. Perfect for grilled meat, substantial or rustic dishes typical of many inland areas of Italy. A good travel companion for exploring the cuisine of our country. The Rosso di Montalcino from the I Capolavori collection features Leonardo da Vinci’s Angels on the label: beauty on the label that completes – on the table – Italian style.
Summer bubbles accompany moments of celebration and the most beautiful and warm summer evenings, toasts with friends barefoot on the sand. The Pignoletto Spumante Brut from the 1502 Da Vinci in Romagna collection is a Charmat with silky softness and lively and fine bubbles, its aromas are fruity and floral, with typical notes of acacia flowers and yellow fruits. It is a perfect and complete aperitif, to be paired with tasty morsels, but also cheeses and cured meats.
It is produced from Vermentino grapes at 100%, and has a colour that represents summer more than others: straw yellow with golden highlights that evoke the sun. Its bouquet is floral and intense; to taste it is dry, harmonious, savoury and with a few more years of age it evolves towards minerality. It lends itself to many pairings, but especially to Mediterranean cuisine. And for this reason it is suitable for accompanying the convivial moments of summer, when dinners are based on fish, white meats, vegetables. It is exquisite with fresh cheeses or medium-aged ones, because it enhances their salinity.
