A shower of prizes from the Berliner Wein Trophy 2021

Pioggia di premi dal Berliner Wein Trophy 2021

We are pleased to share with our community of devoted wine lovers the latest oenological awards that three of our red wines have won following the spring tasting of the 2021 Berliner Wein Trophy.
Awarded the GOLD MEDAL:

  1. Leonardo da Vinci Rosso Toscana IGT
  2. Da Vinci I Capolavori San Giovanni Battista Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
  3. Leonardo da Vinci Governo all’Uso Toscano Toscana IGT

Three gold medals for three red wines that are symbols of our “Leonardo da Vinci Vitruviano” and “Da Vinci I Capolavori” collections, recognised by the prestigious Berliner Wein Trophy. Since 2004, the BWT represents the world’s largest wine competition and Germany’s most important wine tasting, under the patronage of the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) and the IUOE (International Union of Oenologists). BWT brings together famous producers and distributors from around the world every year and the number of samples submitted is in constant growth with almost 14,000 entries per year.

Toscana IGT Rosso 2019 from the Leonardo da Vinci collection – GOLD MEDAL

A Tuscan red obtained mainly from Sangiovese grapes, cultivated in Vinci and in the surrounding municipalities. It presents an intense red colour. On the nose it is of fine intensity, with notes of red and black fruits. On entry to the mouth it shows great softness with an intense and long finish.

San Giovanni Battista Brunello di Montalcino 2015 from the Da Vinci I Capolavori collection – GOLD MEDAL

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG “San Giovanni Battista” is obtained from a slow maceration on the skins of Sangiovese grapes, followed by fermentation lasting 15-20 days with gentle but frequent pumpings, which have enriched the wine’s complexity. To ensure excellent colour and tannin extraction, the wine fermented in stainless steel, before being transferred for ageing in oak barrels for at least 2 years. A great red, elegant and refined, born from the mastery of the Leonardo® Method.

Governo all’uso Toscano Toscana IGT 2019 from the Leonardo da Vinci collection – GOLD MEDAL

“Governo all’Uso Toscano” immediately evokes the ancient Tuscan tradition of double fermentation caused by the addition of a certain quantity of must and its skins. In the case of our red wine, Sangiovese and Merlot grapes are vinified separately, in November the blend is carried out and between January and February the dried Merlot grapes are added, then the maturation continues in stainless steel vats for another three months. This ensures that this Tuscan red wine on the palate is well-balanced, full, full-bodied with a pleasantly elegant finish.
Let us raise our glasses and toast to these important medals! Cheers.
