A journalist and illustrator, Biscalchin specialises in gastronomy, travel and books. In his illustrations, he creates microcosms of cities, countries, ingredients and chefs with a style that blends irony and culture.
Biscalchin has interpreted the world of Leonardo da Vinci and wine by imagining the Genius engaging with the most common and familiar object for anyone wishing to open a bottle: the corkscrew. From there, a succession of witty drawings that aim to pay homage to the most creative mind ever – that of Leonardo da Vinci – who would in turn have delighted in imagining futuristic contraptions for wine.
Wine that is also in harmony with the most famous characters from Leonardo’s paintings, who under Biscalchin’s hand take on their own life and personality equipped with a glass, red or white. This is the case for the Lady with an Ermine, for Bacchus or St. John the Baptist.
Biscalchin’s Leonardo, and ours too, is an irreverent and ironic Genius, a pop icon with a spirit so forward-looking as to be an inexhaustible source of inspiration forever.
