Leonardo, Genius of Wine, Makes a Stop in China

Leonardo Genio del vino fa tappa in Cina

The figure of Leonardo da Vinci has always captivated people across every latitude, and so it was during the Leonardo Genius of Wine event, which took place on 7 September in Shanghai to launch the new Cantine Leonardo da Vinci wine collections in the Chinese market.

The event took place at the Bulgari Hotel with the participation of sixty of China’s most influential distributors and important institutional figures.

The afternoon unfolded with a presentation of Leonardo Da Vinci Spa’s projects led by Commercial Director Massimo D’Isep, followed by a technical tasting of 6 wines from the Collections inspired by the Genius, guided by a sommelier trained by AIS China. The Chinese market was thus introduced to the 1502 Da Vinci in Romagna, Da Vinci I Capolavori and Villa da Vinci collections.

With proceedings concluded, the evening continued in the splendid hall of Shanghai’s former Chamber of Commerce building, the Bvlgari Ballroom, where guests and the trade press enjoyed a gala dinner curated by Michelin-starred chef Cristina Bowerman, project ambassador and creator of a special menu dedicated to the Genius “Culinary Visions from the Future” paired with wines from Cantine Leonardo da Vinci.

During dinner, the Golden Bees band provided entertainment for guests, and the event concluded with remarks from the institutional figures present: Ludovica Murazzani from the General Consulate of Italy in Shanghai, Emanuela Vizzaro from the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China, Adele Lobasso Cultural Officer from the General Consulate of Italy in Shanghai and Valentina Petroli Deputy Director, ICE Shanghai. All contributions highlighted the cultural value of the project (among other things, during the evening, guests were able to view exclusively the trailer of the documentary Leonardo’s Wine made with the participation of Oscar-winning cinematographer Giovanni Storaro) and the importance of Made in Italy in the wine sector. Leonardo is a universal genius, but he is an Italian genius. More than that, he is the one who sparked the creation of Italy’s image, which subsequently took root in populations throughout the world: the capacity to invent products, enriching them with qualitative content – the so-called “Italian genius”.
