Chianti Riserva: characteristics of one of Italy’s most beloved wines

Chianti Riserva is one of the wine classifications under Chianti DOCG denomination: one of Italy's most beloved, renowned and best-selling wines.

It belongs to a region with a noble, ancient and recognised wine-making vocation, Tuscany, the homeland of Chianti and Leonardo da Vinci.
And therefore I believe that great happiness befalls those men who are born where good wines are found, as the Genius of Vinci maintained. Territory and wine are inseparably linked, and indeed the name Chianti denotes a hilly zone located between Florence, Siena and Arezzo, distinctive in its beauty and unique in its scenic characteristics.

What are the characteristics of Chianti Riserva?

In its Tuscan vineyards, Cantine Leonardo da Vinci produces Chianti DOCG and Chianti DOCG Riserva. The Riserva designation associated with a wine signifies that it has been subjected to an additional ageing period beyond that required by production regulations. In particular, the ageing and refinement period necessary for a Chianti to be designated Riserva is 2 years.
Chianti Riserva is therefore a particularly fine wine, usually full-bodied and with a higher alcohol content, often coming from vineyards previously selected for their unique characteristics. Chianti Classico Riserva is moreover the Chianti wine produced in the original geographical area of Chianti’s historical production.

Wines Inspired by Genius: Chianti Riserva DOCG.

Among the Wines Inspired by Genius, we find two Chianti Riserva DOCG: the Vergine delle Rocce in the Da Vinci I Capolavori collection and the Chianti Riserva in the Leonardo da Vinci line, both awarded at national and international level. These Chianti Riserva are produced from grapes grown in the hills of Vinci and are distinguished by their deep red colour, with intense chromatic nuances. They are wines of proper complexity, where fruity aromas combine with vanilla notes. On the palate they are full, enveloping and rich in characteristic flavours such as red fruits and cinnamon. These wines are the ideal accompaniment for first courses with meat-based sauces and grilled meat secondi.
