The wines of Cantine Leonardo da Vinci stood out at the summer edition of the Berliner Wein Trophy, the renowned international wine competition held from 25th to 28th July in the German capital, with the patronage of the OIV and UIOE.
Cantine Leonardo da Vinci, a union of Italian wineries committed to realizing the intuitions of the Genius of Vinci to produce wine, was awarded: 9 important awards assigned by an independent jury of expert oenologists, sommeliers, “Masters of Wine”, specialized merchants, producers of wine, and journalists, during the 4 days of tasting foreseen by the event.
The “1502 Da vinci in Romagna” collection, dedicated Leonardo da Vinci’s stay in Romagna in 1502, and his passing through the cities of Cesena, Cesenatico, Faenza and Imola, was awarded two gold medals for: Mappa di Imola Pignoletto, Spumante Brut DOC 2018, characterized by an unusual vinification method for the vine (Charmat Method), and Uve portate a Cesena Sangiovese Appassimento Romagna DOC 2017, whose dried grapes are harvested manually, and Rocca di Cesena Sangiovese Superiore Riserva Romagna DOC 2016, the best expression of one of the typical Romagna vines.
The “Da Vinci i Capolavori” collection, a selection of the most famous Italian oenological denominations combined with works of art by Leonardo da Vinci depicted on the label, excelled, winning the gold medal for two versions of the same wine: the Virgin delle Rocce Chianti Riserva DOCG 2015 and the Vergine delle Rocce Chianti DOCG 2017.
Excellent results also for the off-trade collection “Leonardo da Vinci”, which won two first places with the Chianti Riserva DOCG 2015 and with the Terre de ‘Priori Governo at the Tuscan Use IGT 2018, a wine that refers to the ancient Tuscan wine culture; and two silver medals for Vermentino Toscana IGT 2018 and Chianti Classico DOCG 2016.
The Berliner Wein Trophy, launched in 2004, is now recognized as one of the most influential wine competitions in the world and among the most important wine tastings in Germany, under the patronage of the OIV and UIOE. A fundamental requirement for participation is the high quality standard that Cantine Leonardo da Vinci has been able to respect and satisfy with its wines, a modern reinterpretation of Leonardo’s approach according to today’s best agronomic and enological techniques.
