Cantine Leonardo da Vinci, an association of Italian wineries committed to realising the insights of the Genius of Vinci in winemaking, has secured 9 important awards from an independent jury of wine experts, sommeliers, Masters of Wine, specialist traders, wine producers and journalists, during the 4-day tasting event.
The ‘1502 Da vinci in Romagna’ collection, dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci’s stay in Romagna in 1502 and his passage through the cities of Cesena, Cesenatico, Faenza and Imola, has been awarded three gold medals for: Mappa di Imola Pignoletto, Spumante Brut DOC 2018, characterised by an unusual winemaking method for the grape variety (Metodo Charmat), Uve portate a Cesena Sangiovese Appassimento Romagna DOC 2017, whose dried grapes are harvested by hand, and Rocca di Cesena Sangiovese Superiore Riserva Romagna DOC 2016, the finest expression of one of the typical Romagna grape varieties.
The ‘Da Vinci i Capolavori’ collection, a selection of Italy’s most renowned wine designations paired with Leonardo da Vinci’s artworks depicted on the labels, excels with two versions of the same wine: winning gold medals are the Vergine delle Rocce Chianti Riserva DOCG 2015 and the Vergine delle Rocce Chianti DOCG 2017.
Excellent results also for the off-trade ‘Leonardo da Vinci’ collection, which takes top two places with the Chianti Riserva DOCG 2015 and the Terre de’ Priori Governo all’Uso Toscano IGT 2018, a wine that echoes ancient Tuscan winemaking tradition; two silver medals with the Vermentino Toscana IGT 2018 and the Chianti Classico DOCG 2016.
The Berliner Wein Trophy, launched in 2004, is now recognised as one of the world’s most authoritative wine competitions and among Germany’s most important wine tastings, under the patronage of the OIV and UIOE. A fundamental requirement for participation is the high quality standard that Cantine Leonardo da Vinci has managed to maintain and satisfy with its wines, a modern reinterpretation of Leonardo’s approach using the finest current agronomic and winemaking techniques.
