Amid wine, tastings and a tribute to Leonardo da Vinci, the twenty-eighth edition of the Merano Wine Festival took place from 9 to 12 November, one of the most prestigious events in the European wine and gastronomy scene.
“Merano Wine Festival is a moment of sharing stories – said Helmut Köcher, patron of the festival and known as The Wine Hunter – This year many of these stories revolve around the absolute Genius of Leonardo da Vinci. I have studied his figure extensively this year, I have read many things. It is extraordinary how already in 1500 he was interested in wine.”
With the motto “Excellence is an attitude”, Helmuth Köcher wanted to dedicate this twenty-eighth edition of the festival to the genius of Leonardo da Vinci in his role as an absolute precursor of themes related to enology and the pursuit of excellence in the wine sector.
For Cantine Leonardo da Vinci, the patron therefore reserved a special space within the festival’s heart, the stage at the Kursaal of the Kurhaus. Right in the most important hall of the magnificent Liberty building, on the honour stage, next to a wooden reproduction of Vitruvian Man created by a local artist, we of Cantine Leonardo da Vinci presented the two wines that distinguished themselves at the annual competition that frames the Festival, winning The Wine Hunter Award Rosso – namely S.to Ippolito and Linarius from the Villa da Vinci collection.
At the Festival, the celebrated Letter to the Steward was presented, in which Leonardo da Vinci gave precise instructions to his collaborator for producing excellent wines, and which inspired us in the development of our Leonardo Method©.
The curiosity and interest that Leonardo’s eclecticism generates time and again confirm his timeless genius, capable of still astonishing and being an inexhaustible source of inspiration.
