Genetic vocation
The relationship between da Vinci and wine is something everyday, profound, intense. It could never have been otherwise: the Genius was born in a family from a small village in the magnificent Tuscan hills. In Vinci, love for the earth and its fruits is carved into the soul.
Where everything starts
Vinci, located on the slopes of Montalbano, is surrounded by the gentle Tuscan countryside, a true paradise for grapevines and olive trees. Here we welcome wine, art, nature and science lovers, taking them by the hand to guide them in their discovery of the origins of the Genius.
In Romagna
A land that won Leonardo's heart, making a profound mark on his winemaking knowledge. Here, in 1502, employed by Cesare Borgia to design the fortifications of the Duchy of Romagna, the Maestro drew the famous grapes hung up to dry depicted on the label of Uve portate a Cesena, now kept at the Library of the Institut de France in Paris.
In the shadow of the Duomo
Sixteen poles planted with vines just a few steps from Santa Maria delle Grazie Cathedral: this was Ludovico Il Moro's gift to the Genius as thanks for his masterpiece, The Last Supper. The ancient vineyard of Leonardo da Vinci was hidden right in the centre of Milan, a place that has been rediscovered today, thanks to an extraordinary enological and philological investigation.
As sacred as food
"The thing that is nourished is equal to what nourishes it". Leonardo loved everything beautiful and good in life. His table was laden with authentic local products, and he was attentive to the value and sacredness of food, as the vessel and giver of life. A philosophy that we now describe and continue to pursue in our Journal.
The letter to the Grower
"The last four carafes were not in line with my expectations, and I regret it", wrote Da Vinci in a 1515 missive to his grower, Zanobi Boni, adding reflections and precise technical indications on the cultivation of grapes and their transformation into wine. This letter is the first treatise on viticulture in history. An approach that forms the foundation of our Metodo Leonardo®.
Family crus
The Villa da Vinci wines are made exclusively from the grapes cultivated in the 75 hectares of vineyard on the estate. The da Vinci family's crus have now become the Villa da Vinci Crus, and they still have their original, historical names: S.to Ippolito (Sangiovese, Merlot, Syrah), San Zio (Sangiovese), Linarius (Syrah), Streda (Vermentino). Added to these is also the traditional Vin Santo.
Auteur labels
On every bottle, we can admire the mark of the Genius, sealing the quality of his teachings, and telling the story behind all our actions. Our labels are inspired by da Leonardo da Vinci's masterpieces, evoking timeless sensations that reinvent themselves with every sip.
The barrique
In the Codex Atlanticus, the most extensive collection of Leonardo da Vinci's drawings and notes, there is a sketch depicting a little barrel. According to experts, this is the first barrique in history, which for centuries has been a valuable container for ageing wine, showing his intuition for winemaking.
The Vitruvian Man
This is no simple drawing on paper, but a masterpiece of art: the ideal representation of harmonious anatomical proportions drawn in a perfect circle has always been synonymous with balance, harmony and precision. What is true of the Vitruvian Man can also be said of our wines.
